Happy National Trails Day—the first Saturday in June. Our pop-up walk in Forest Park was a collaboration with the Natural Areas Conservancy. We were joined by Josh Otero from NAC. On the walk we talked about the ecological and mycological components of the forest at Forest Park and discussed community forestry, forest ecology, mycology and how all these things relate to one another. It has been very dry lately, so we weren't really expecting much in the way of fungi. However, there was a bolete—rather small, but a real mycorrhizal mushroom. The first of the season. It was bitter, so probably Tylopilus rubrobrunneus or something of that nature.
~38 people on a ~3hr walk with a fair amount more talking than our usual walks.
