Woods between the Audubon Boathouse and the back of the Zoo, 4 hr walk, ~30 people at start, many welcome newcomers. Pleasant sunny day, after a full week of rain, some drenching. >70 species. We found three species new for NYC: Josh Millrod and Maryna Lansky found the stunning myxomycete Lycogala conica (cousin of the common Lycogala epidendrum); the stinking “truffle” Densocarpa shanorii was found in great abundance in the woods west of the zoo (thanks to Sigrid Jakob’s detective work in figuring this out!); Ethan Crenson collected and identified Scutellinia erinaceus, a smallish member of the genus, with a yellow – orange/yellow color and very long lashes.
