Our traditional New Years Day walk. It was unseasonably warm in NYC. There were a lots of ascos, jellies, crusts and even a few gilled mushrooms. Barry Ma found the largest wild enoki that I think I have ever seen. Simon Gurvets found a tiny urchin-like coelomycete, which I said could be either Pseudolachnea hispidula, or a very similar (in terms of macromorphology) Dinemasporium sp. I then walked about 40 steps and noticed more small black urchin-like coelomycetes on a small branch. I brought home my collection to look at under the microscope. Long story short, my collection ended up being Dinemasporium decipiens and Simon’s was in fact Pseudolachnea hispidula. Afterward, Irene had us all over for amazing mushroom dishes.
Temperatures in the high 40s. ~26 people on a ~2.5 hour walk.
