This walk was in collaboration with the Alley Pond Environmental Center, an organization dedicated to educating children and adults in the New York metropolitan area, protecting and preserving Alley Pond Park, open spaces and waterbodies, and advocating for sustainable environmental policies and practices. Our walk focused on the north end of the park, near Alley Creekâan area we have never visited before. Plenty of recent rains meant that there were plenty of mushrooms. Christine Halvorson found Paragalactinia michelii, which is new for the city. It's a brown Peziza (s.l.) which when encountered young, can have a beautiful lilac coloring. Wilton found Karstenia rhopaloides. The Death Cap mushroom, Amanita phalloides, made an appearance as well. About 25 people (many left early) on a ~4 hour walk.
