Our walk concentrated on the Ramble and the area behind the zoo. In the Ramble in particular we found a remarkable number of mushrooms and slime molds. In the same spot where we encountered it in 2019, Lala spotted the Densocarpa shanori, which is an ascomycete truffle that smells like rotten eggs. That mushroom is one of the targets of our 2025 New York City Rare Fungi Hunt! Glen found a very handsome Rhodocybe, an attractive gray on gray mushroom which we will sequence in due time (stay tuned to find out the results). Hector found an ascomycete that is the subject of research by German mycologist Hans Otto Baral, and has been going under a provisional name: Peltigeromyces mollisioides. The provisional name will be made official in a forthcoming paper. Elan and Lee, our slime mold experts found Physarella oblonga, which is new for the city. It was a great walk. About 35 people on a ~4 hour walk.
