The explicit purpose of this walk was to collect mushrooms to display at Fungus Festival. The invitation to the walk stated that: We need fresh, impressive, and unusual mushrooms to display at Sunday's Fungus Festival. But even if the emphasis was on large specimens, it could not stop some of our members from collecting fascinating, tiny ascomycetes. Case in point: Simon Gurvets collected the never-before-seen in New York City Amicodisca svrcekii. The season to this point was very dry, rendering the swampy areas in Alley Pond muddy but navigable on foot. Dichostereum effuscatum, which seems to prefer such habitats seems to be having a good year. ~12 people on a ~3.5 hour walk.
